About Orpheus Sinfonia

Founded in 2009, Orpheus Sinfonia is one of London’s most vibrant, dynamic and inspiring of young orchestras, attracting the best of music conservatoire graduates from Britain and Europe.

Over recent years invitations to renowned music festivals have included Windsor, Brighton, Wimbledon, Barnes, Swansea, Cheltenham, Stowe, Iford and Cambridge with appearances at the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall and Windsor Castle and collaborations with soloists such as Dame Felicity Lott, Tasmin Little, Heinrich Schiff and our Patron Sir Antonio Pappano. The orchestra has featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC World Service and released its debut CD on Signum Classics and over past years partnerships have included with the Menuhin Competition, International Opera Awards and Opera Danube, amongst many others.

As well as large-scale symphonic projects, Orpheus has launched the Orpheus Principals chamber orchestra, developed the innovative “Beneath the Score” series, which explores the character and influences of selected composers, and continues to work with world-class soloists and conductors. Outreach work is also an important part of its operations and most recently has seen the launch of our innovative MULTIPLAY programme. Equally at home with core symphonic repertoire, world premieres, specially curated and bespoke programmes and events, working with all manner of choirs and choruses, cinema screenings with live orchestra and operas. Orpheus Sinfonia has evolved to create its own special place in an exciting and developing music industry.

In 2018 Orpheus returned as the official orchestra for the International Opera Awards at the London Coliseum, received great critical acclaim and a nomination for operatic productions with Iford Arts and Grimeborn Opera Festival, welcomed soloists including Sir Roderick Williams, BBC Young Musician Concerto Finalist Maxim Calver and violinist Jack Liebeck, and are looking forward to a 40th anniversary live orchestra tour of The Snowman, all alongside our programme of core concerts in London and working with a wonderful and diverse number of choirs and choral societies.
